A Hero’s Story

I started working at DST a few months after I got out of "basic training" for the Army. I was just a member of the National Guard, a weekend warrior. I was a civilian for the majority of the month and a soldier one weekend out of each month. Everything worked out well my first year at DST. I worked in the call center, I took night classes, and I had a nice loft apartment downtown. I felt like I was living the life, our team was secure. Right before my second year started, I was notified by the Army that my unit would be deploying overseas. I was confused; I didn't know what to do. Who do I notify? Am I supposed to quit my job? These were the questions running through my mind. I learned that DST has a military leave of absence program where my job was secure and I'd be able to return once my deployment was over. The staff helped me fill out my paperwork and gather the correct documents needed to apply for the leave. They helped me make a smooth transition into full time Army life. When I returned 1½ years later, they helped me transition back into the workforce. One thing I can say about the company is that if you seek for answers you'll find them; there are very knowledgeable people throughout this company.

Engaging and Communicating

I had a performance engagement conversation with my manager last week. For the first time in 20 years, I got to tell someone at work that start-up projects energize me, that I like to work with people who think big and are optimistic, and that all my satisfaction drivers are being met in my current role. Saying that felt really good. I also got to brainstorm with him about ways I could contribute even more. I got to ask him how he sees my work evolving. I got to tell him what big challenges I face. I got to tell him what I'd like him to do more of and less of.

Acting on Ideas

As I look around the organization, I see all kinds of opportunities to make a difference…ways to go beyond daily responsibilities and have a positive impact on our customers and on DST. There are always ways to improve client communication, increase our consultative expertise, be more efficient, and bring our organization together to provide the best service and product delivery to our customers. There are so many opportunities for this to continue, everyone has ideas, you just need to act on your ideas and get involved!

First Impressions

Overall, my first week here as an intern really surpassed my expectations of a “desk job” and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable after only four days with this company. I hope that the job only gets better and that I can keep learning from everyone involved. My supervisor has really showed that he had confidence in me and was excited that I could be joining the team for the summer.

Dental Plan

In an effort to ensure you receive routine dental exams, DST automatically enrolls full-time associates in dental coverage without any cost to you. You may elect to enroll spouse and children in coverage.

Disability Insurance

We understand the importance of disability insurance as it relates to your overall benefits package. Disability insurance provides replacement income in the event that you can no longer work. Short term disability insurance can provide you with income while you are away from work for an extended period – say, for a non-work related disability like maternity, illness, or injury. Long-term disability insurance becomes effective once you are disabled from your occupation, if, as result of physical disease, injury, pregnancy or mental disorder, you are unable to perform with reasonable continuity the material duties of your position.

Discount Programs

We offer special discount programs for banking, cell phones, camera equipment, automobiles, computers and electronics, fitness facilities, financial planning services…as well as access to local attractions, cultural events, and sports teams.

Educational Assistance

We encourage associates to pursue higher education through our education reimbursement program. All full-time regular associates of DST are eligible. Educational assistance is considered for coursework that will enhance the professional development of the associate. Undergraduate courses that qualify are those required for attainment of a programming degree, business degree or individual business courses related to your present position or potential development with the company.

Emergency Preparedness

The safety and well-being of our associates is paramount. Our Emergency Preparedness Plan relies on participation of key personnel who are responsible for training and communicating emergency procedures to associates in their work area.

Flexible Spending Plan

A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a way for you to budget and pay for out-of-pocket health expenses on a pre-tax basis. You do not need to enroll in a DST health plan to be eligible. When you elect an account, you may submit eligible expenses for you and your tax dependents. Eligible expenses include co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible for medical, prescription, dental and vision.

Life Insurance

All associates are provided basic life insurance, effective on the first day of the month following hire date. The benefit amount is based on an associate’s annual salary.

Matching Gifts

We recognize the importance of charitable organizations, not only to our associates, but also the communities in which they live and work. The purpose of this program is to encourage directors, officers and associates and approved subsidiaries to support qualifying charitable organizations with a generous company match.

Medical Plan

We offer two comprehensive health plans to eligible associates, including a traditional Preferred Provider Organization plan (PPO) and a consumer-driven High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Both the PPO and the HDHP cover the same conditions and prescriptions as well as use the same network of physicians and pharmacies.

Paid Time Off

We offer programs available to qualified associates to attend to their personal priorities. Paid time off encompasses traditional vacation time and sick leave along with paid holidays.

Performance Management

Our performance management process is built upon alignment, agreement, and accountability. Individual goals are aligned with department/team, group, division, and company goals. Associates and managers jointly develop performance documents, which identify goals, metrics and results. Both associates and managers are accountable for business results.


We offer a 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan which provides you the ability to save for retirement with no cost to you. When you choose to participate, DST matches your contribution dollar-for-dollar up to the first 3% per pay period. You may elect to contribute up to 25% of your wages, pre-tax or after-tax, and direct investments among 30 investment options.

Vision Plan

We understand that vision care is not just for people who wear glasses. Regularly scheduled, comprehensive eye exams are an important aspect of your ongoing efforts to improve the health and well being of yourself and/or your family. Vision care is important for everyone. That’s why we offer an affordable and easy-to-use vision plan that focuses on eyes and overall wellness.

Organizational Effectiveness

DST’s Organizational Effectiveness group offers a variety of training courses including leadership development, management development, written and oral communications, personal computer classes, and courses designed around our vertical industries.

Web-based Training

Self-paced, online learning is also open to all associates. Over 200 course titles from seven different curriculum libraries and a variety of programming and project management courses are available.

Information Systems Training

DST’s information systems training curriculum offers classes in programming languages, tools and techniques. Classes range from long-term, entry-level programs to short-term classes for specific topics.
